Before She Was a Mum - Series Launch

Updated: Apr 12, 2019

I started my Instagram page and later this blog because I had recently become a new Mum and I was struggling with the transition between being the career girl and being stay-at-home mum. Over the past two years I’ve engaged with women who have returned to work full-time and part-time, sometimes to their old role and sometimes after changing direction.

Other Mums have decided to take a career break and be a stay at home mum, and then there are the lady-bosses who have started or are starting their own businesses or side hustles. All of us are knee deep in managing the juggle and answering questions like “Who am I now,” “am I ok with that?” and "surely there is an easier way to do this?"

I’ve reached out to eight amazing Mums who all have a different story to tell about their journey before and after motherhood, and into the future. They have kindly agreed to share with me their story, thoughts and advice about navigating this new season of life. I've asked them what they did for a job before they became a Mum and how that has changed (or not changed)? I asked what they have found hard, how they make it work and what advice they'd have given themselves if they had known all. the. things.

Over the next two months I'll be sharing their stories with you in the hope that by showcasing this community of amazing women I can help to make valuable connections on some common ground and that we can share any lessons we've learned along the way with one another.

I often tell my stepdaughter that it’s important for her to do well at school and try to get the best grades for her future (and all those responsible things). But, it’s also really important for her to know that there are a lot of different paths to get to where she is going and there is no one right way, just the right way for her. That is the kind of the message I want to bring to motherhood.

Two years on and the differences between the old Kristin and this softer, squishier me are still quirky and sometimes uncomfortable. I'm slowly discovering the new space that my career occupies in my life and following the paths that this platform allows me to wander down from time to time. I hope you'll join me and welcome them to this space.
